There are three ways to reach Kumejima from Okinawa’s main island: RAC flight (30 min, ~¥12,000–18,000), Kumeshosen ferry (3–4 hours, ¥3,450), or the new Kumejima Ocean Jet jetfoil (92 min, ¥7,800, launching May 2026). All depart from Naha. The jetfoil offers the best balance of speed and affordability.
Option 1: Kumejima Ocean Jet (Recommended)

Launching May 1, 2026, the KOJ jetfoil connects Naha (Tomari Wharf) to Kumejima (Kaneshiro Port) in approximately 92 minutes for ¥7,800. The smooth hydrofoil ride minimizes seasickness. Book at 最新運航情報(LINE). See our Complete Guide for full details.
Option 2: RAC Flight

RAC/JTA operates 2–3 daily flights from Naha Airport to Kumejima Airport (~30 minutes). Fares range from ¥12,000–18,000 depending on booking timing. Fastest option but most expensive, and you need to factor in airport transfers and check-in time.
Option 3: Kumeshosen Ferry

The traditional ferry (¥3,450, 3–4 hours) is the cheapest option and the only way to bring a vehicle. 1–2 daily sailings from Tomari Wharf. Best for budget travelers or those shipping a car. See our KOJ vs Ferry comparison.
Which Should You Choose?

Day trip or tight schedule → KOJ jetfoil. Budget priority → Kumeshosen ferry. Fastest possible → RAC flight. Bringing a car → Kumeshosen ferry (only option). See our full transport comparison.
Kumejima Island is accessible from Naha by three transportation options: the new Kumejima Ocean Jet jetfoil (92 minutes from May 2026), the conventional Kumeshosen ferry (approximately 3.5 hours), and Japan Airlines / RAC flights (approximately 30 minutes). Each option has distinct advantages in terms of speed, cost, and convenience.
The Ocean Jet offers the best balance of speed and experience, with its 92-minute journey providing stunning ocean views while saving significant travel time compared to the ferry. Flights are fastest but are subject to weather cancellations and require airport transfers on both ends. The conventional ferry is the most affordable option and allows vehicle transport. For most visitors, combining the Ocean Jet for one direction with a flight for the return creates an optimal travel experience.
