Pet policies for the Kumejima Ocean Jet will be announced before the May 1, 2026 launch. Based on other Japanese jetfoil services, small pets in carriers may be permitted with restrictions. If pets are not allowed, alternatives include the Kumeshosen ferry (which typically accepts crated pets) and RAC flights (cargo hold).
Expected Pet Policy

The official pet policy has not yet been announced. On comparable Japanese jetfoil services, small pets in approved carriers are sometimes permitted in the cabin with a surcharge. Large dogs are generally not allowed in the passenger cabin. Check ko-jet.com for the confirmed policy.
Alternatives for Pet Owners

If the KOJ does not accept pets, the Kumeshosen ferry typically allows pets in crates on a designated deck area. RAC flights also transport pets in the cargo hold. See our Okinawa Ferry Pet Guide for comprehensive pet travel information.
Traveling with pets on Kumejima Ocean Jet is possible with advance arrangement. Small dogs, cats, and other small animals can travel in approved pet carriers placed in the designated pet area on the vessel. A pet fee of ¥1,000 per animal applies, payable at the time of boarding. Pets must remain in their carriers throughout the journey and are not permitted on passenger seats.
The 82-minute voyage from Naha to Kumejima is relatively short, but jet-powered vessels can experience more vibration than conventional ferries. If your pet is sensitive to motion, consult your veterinarian about motion sickness medication before travel. Fresh water should be provided in the carrier, and it is advisable to exercise your pet before boarding. Note that service animals accompanying passengers with disabilities travel free of charge and are not subject to the pet carrier requirement.
