Cancellation Warning
Hateruma has the highest cancellation rate in Yaeyama. In winter (Nov-Mar), services can be cancelled for multiple consecutive days. Always keep 1-2 buffer days in your itinerary. There is no airport with scheduled flights.

High-speed boats operated by Anei Kanko connect Ishigaki Port to Hateruma in about 60–70 minutes, with 3–4 daily departures. One-way fares are approximately ¥3,090 for adults.
Hateruma Island is famous for the Southern Cross, which is visible from the island during winter months. The Hoshizora Observation Tower offers one of the best stargazing experiences in Japan, far from any light pollution. Nishi Beach on the island’s north shore boasts some of the clearest water in the Yaeyama Islands. The island is small enough to explore by bicycle in 2–3 hours, and rental cycles are available near the port.
