Day 1: Arrival and Island Exploration
Morning: Depart Naha’s Tomari Port on the Kumejima Ocean Jet. Arrive at Kanegusuku Port in approximately 82 minutes. Pick up a rental car at the port (advance reservation recommended).
Late Morning: Visit Tatami-ishi (畳石), a natural rock formation of pentagonal and hexagonal stones designated as a National Natural Monument. The geometric patterns are best seen at low tide.
Lunch: Enjoy Kumejima’s famous kuruma-ebi (車えび / tiger prawns). Kumejima is Japan’s top producer of farmed prawns, and several restaurants near the port serve them fresh — grilled, as tempura, or as sashimi.
Afternoon: Drive to Ou-jima (奥武島), a tiny island connected by bridge, known for sea turtle viewing. Continue to Hiyajo Banta cliff for panoramic ocean views.
Evening: Check into your hotel. Try Kumejima’s local awamori (泡盛) — “Kumesen” is the island’s signature distillery.
Day 2: Hatenohama and Departure
Morning: Join a Hatenohama tour (はての浜). This stunning 7 km sandbar — often called one of the most beautiful beaches in the Orient — is accessible only by boat from Eef Beach area. Tours typically last 3–4 hours and include snorkeling.
After Lunch: Visit Bade Haus Kumejima, a deep-sea water spa using water pumped from 612 meters below the ocean surface. Relax before your return journey.
