Hatenohama is a pristine sandbar beach about 5 km east of Kumejima, often called “the most beautiful beach in the Orient.” Access: take the KOJ jetfoil from Naha to Kumejima (82 min, ¥7,800), then a boat tour from Tomari Fisharina (~20 min, ~¥3,000–4,000). Half-day tours last about 3 hours. A day trip from Naha is now possible with KOJ’s May 2026 launch.
Getting to Kumejima

The fastest way to reach Kumejima from Naha is the Kumejima Ocean Jet, launching May 1, 2026. The jetfoil departs from Tomari Wharf in central Naha and arrives at Kaneshiro Port in approximately 82 minutes. One-way fare is ¥7,800. This makes a same-day round trip to Hatenohama entirely feasible. See our transport comparison for all options.
Boat Tour to Hatenohama

From Kaneshiro Port, take a taxi or rental car to Tomari Fisharina (about 15 minutes). Several tour operators run boat trips to Hatenohama, with the crossing taking approximately 20 minutes. Half-day tours (about 3 hours including beach time) cost around ¥3,000–4,000. Advance booking is recommended during summer and Golden Week.
What to Expect

Hatenohama is a sand-only island with no shade or facilities. Bring sunscreen, water, a hat, and reef-safe sunblock. Snorkeling gear is often included in tour packages. The turquoise water and white sand create one of Okinawa’s most photogenic landscapes.
